Foundation and program support

“WalkBoston’s collaborative and inclusive approach is inspired. They create smart solutions that connect neighbors, improve lives, and make communities safer and healthier for people of all ages. We are proud to support this work.”
– Nora Moreno Cargie, Tufts Health Plan Foundation

WalkBoston receives generous support from local and national foundations, state agencies, and local organizations to conduct specific programs and initiatives across Massachusetts.

Foundations focused on healthy communities, environmental stewardship, transportation alternatives, and livability find our mission to improve the built environment for walking aligns closely with their organizational goals. The benefits of walking are widely recognized. People who walk as part of their daily routine are more likely to get the exercise needed to stay healthy. Commuters and others who choose to walk, bike and ride transit help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. Walking is also a social activity, and people who walk in their neighborhoods tend to be more involved in community life and civic activities.

WalkBoston provides assistance that bridges the gap between broad-based advocacy and technical engineering. Our expert staff are well trained in walkable community design and can recommend strategies that improve pedestrian safety and maximize community livability. As an advocacy organization, we are a valuable resource to state agencies and local governments because we build local technical capacity for more walkable places and improved pedestrian safety across the state.

Thank you for your continued support!
